“Damn, I missed my lines.”

5. When I got to school, everything felt so different. It was in the air, this general yearning for something to kill me off. Not, like, suicidal, but paranoid. I had woken up an hour earlier, terribly tired, and my eyes were so red that I could see red, to an extent. That was the day I saw Chastity. The new one. Soon, I would find out what that meant.

“I’m gonna see you every day for the rest of your life,” she told me. A jolt of intrigue went through me. “No, not marriage, tonto! Stronger than marriage. It’s a promise. I want to see you every day ‘cuz you are my friend.” I was partially happy. I didn’t have the mind to think about where she came up with this idea. I kind of was just glad she didn’t die in the woods, and I liked her new look.

I woke up every morning at my parents’, and on my lazy walks to school I didn’t see Chastity at all — for about a week. In fact, the only times I did see her were on the news. They showed the boy she had hurt and the plane she had taken down. I couldn’t believe it was the same Chastity. I was the only one who knew she was back too. Kinda hot.
